Hi everyone, this is our regular update on upcoming training times and events.

Firstly, thank you to everyone who took part at the Japan Bazaar, we put on a great show and hopefully everyone enjoyed it. Same time again next year!

Training times

This Sunday morning 31st May, the adult class will be held at my place and from 11:00 to 12:30. There is no change to the afternoon junior and caset classes.

Next week I will be unavaialbe on Thursday 4th June and we will hold classes on Wednesday instead.

June 21st, I am attending a memorial day in the Lake District of an old friend who I met in Japan. There will be no classes this day but I may have some sessions on a different day instead TBC.

I may be away the week comencing 6th July for a week or so, dates TBC.

In general we will continue training through the summer holidays, accept when I take a short break myself. We will combine classes due to the lower numbers expected to attend.

Events

We will be attending the EGKA Summer Gasshuku on Saturday 6th June in Southampton. If anyone wishes to join this please let me know. We may be able to car share etc. I would strongly recommend any higher grades to join as attendance to these events are mandatory for 1st Kyu grading and above and also a great chance to train with some of the senior intructors.

There will be another Open Mat Sparring event on July 5th at V & E Judo Club, Goffs Ln, Goffs Oak, Waltham Cross EN7 5QN 11:00 to 13:00. I’m hoping a group of us will attend. There is already interest from a few club members and I hope that we can do this instead of the regular Adult Sunday session. All ages are invited.

Last year I attended the Shoreham Gasshuku and it was a really good, friendly event. I am therefore planning to attend again this year for Saturday and Sunday sessions the weekend of October 10th and 11th.

Grading

We will hold the next Junior and cadet grading on the 5th July at Shenley Leisure Centre from 16:00 to 19:00. I will provide more details on times closer to the time. Anyone that want to take their grrading mus really focus on their training from now. Practice your kata at home and make sure there is no doubt whether your skill level is good enough to pass. You can check the syllabus for what you need to learn but the main thing is take it seriously because the grading is a serious test. I will only pass students that perform the required skills to the EGKA/IOGKF standards. It may also help students by using the video section in the members area.

The date for the adult grading is TBC but should be around the same time as the Juniors and cadets.
