Goju-Ryu Karate Milton Keynes is an EGKA/IOGKF membership dojo based in the Shenley area of Milton Keynes since 2014. We are a friendly karate club dedicated to teaching traditional Okinawan karate.

I've been lucky to train at many great clubs and in many different styles over the years, and it is always a real treasure to find somewhere so dedicated to teaching a genuine martial art such as this. Personally, I don't hesitate to include this club among them. Training is tough but fair, with each person finding their own level then building from there. I feel confident that training here provides both genuine physical development, but also a real sense of fulfilment from the strong historical connection you feel from an art that has such strong roots going all the way back to ancient China. Fascinating stuff, should you choose to dig. With the adult sessions, I love that the atmosphere reflects the Okinawan principle - 'damatte keiko'. My children train here as well and it's a different experience, with just enough focus for them to progress, but also relaxed enough that they can have fun while learning. Recognising these are indeed children, but at the same time maintaining an unwavering focus on respect at all times. A difficult task, one that Sam seems to manage effortlessly, I know I couldn't do it so well !!! In my time here I've seen a few of the older kids transition into young adult-hood, and they most certainly spent that time well. Great karateka, great spirit, great club. Three facts about karate
Shodan
On average it takes students between 6 to 10 years to reach Shodan (Black belt). It takes perseverance, determination and the “never give up” attitude to become a black belt.
Many students who start karate aspire to achieve black belt. However, as your karate journey evolves, you may realise that black is just the beginning.
Okinawa
Goju-Ryu is a style of karate that originated in Okinawa Island, Japan. The style is a culmination of the native “di” (te – Japanese) arts of Okinawa, which date back over 1000 years, influenced by the introduction of Chinese kempo in the 14th century as well as other arts from around Eastern Asia.
IOGKF
Goju-Ryu Karate is a member of the EGKA which is part of the IOGKF. The IOGKF International is a network comprising over 75,000 members in 63 countries throughout the world, all dedicated to preserving a thousand years of history.
